Wandsworth Council has launched a consultation over plans aiming to ‘revitalise and smarten up’ Battersea High Street.
The consultation, launched on February 1, seeks to improve the southern section of the high street in between its junctions with Battersea Park Road and Simpson Street.
It aims to keep the area ‘essentially vehicle free’ but improve it with better paving, less street furniture and the planting of a dozen new trees.
Councillor Jonathan Cook, the council’s highways and transport spokesman, said: “We want local businesses and residents to tell us what they think.
“We believe these plans will improve the high street and make it safer and more attractive for pedestrians and cyclists, but it’s important local people give us their views.”
It comes as residents in and around Battersea High Street have asked for improvements to be made and for better facilities to be installed for its street market, as well as pedestrians and cyclists.
There would still be parking provision for existing businesses, under the new plans, but moved to provide improved space for pedestrians and cyclists.
The consultation closes on February 28.
