A refurbished muli-million pound Sutton cinema which was due to open this week has been delayed for the second time.

The venue in St Nicholas Centre, managed by Empire Cinemas, was due to open this Friday (February 9) but this has now been postponed.

It was closed for redevelopment last June and an opening date in January was also pushed back.

A statement on the cinema's Facebook page said: “As a result of a delay in the delivery of our superior standard seating from North America, Empire Cinema regrets to announce that the new 10-screen cinema at the St Nicholas Centre, Sutton, will not be open this coming Friday (February 9) as advertised.

“We apologise for the delay which is totally out of our control and ask customers to keep an eye on our website and/or social media channels, where opening and film times information will be available as soon as it’s confirmed.

“We are working with contractors to get the cinema open at the earliest opportunity next week.”
