From dropping a cigarette to littering bags of beers cans, 17 more people have been named and shamed for fly-tipping in Croydon.

The council launched its Don’t Mess With Croydon – Take Pride campaign in 2014, which combines getting local people to become community champions with enforcement against the worst offenders.

As well as prosecuting a total of 188 people in court, the council has also seized more than 30 vehicles suspected of being used to store or dump fly-tipping.

Councillor Stuart Collins said the number of people prosecuted showed that the campaign was working.

“Given there had been zero fly-tipping or littering prosecutions when this administration took control four years ago, to now almost reach 200 since then reflects the great job done by our dedicated officers," he said.

“Fly-tippers and litterers make our borough worse for everyone, which is why we will continue our Don’t Mess With Croydon – Take Pride clampdown to both tackle offenders and encourage more people to join our 345 community street champions.”
