A preschool in Hampton has been rated ‘good’ with ‘outstanding’ personal development, behaviour and welfare by Ofsted.

An inspection of YMCA White House Nurserylands found the manager was “highly committed” to her role and “draws effectively on her training and experience to secure continuous improvements that benefit children and their families”.

The inspector found staff received regular support and supervision and provided children with “rich and stimulating learning environments” to keep them well-motivated.

The report stated that all children, including those who speak English as an additional language, make “good developmental progress from their starting points”.

Staff were observed to be “highly sensitive in helping children form secure emotional attachments”.

The report stated: “For example, they are extremely kind and affectionate with children.

“As a result, children are extremely settled and show high levels of social confidence.”

Parents were “highly complimentary” of the staff, and get along “very successfully” with them.

They also said they felt listened to and respected.

Staff proved themselves to be ‘outstanding’ in personal development, behaviour and welfare of the children.

The report stated: “Staff support children's emotional and physical wellbeing extremely well.

“They take great steps to find out about individual children from parents when they first start, to help them feel highly valued and supported.”

The only reason the preschool is not ‘outstanding’ yet is because activities could have been organised more effectively.

A spokeswoman for the nursery Nurserylands said everyone was “delighted” with the news and that it was down to the “hard work and commitment” of staff.

She added: “So well done to children's work co-ordinator Julie Taylor and her team.”
