Hammersmith Bridge will close this February half-term for inspection and planned maintenance.

The work, being carried out by Hammersmith and Fulham Council and Transport for London (TfL), will take place from February 10 to February 16.

The details of the bridge closure are:

• Bridge to re-open on Sunday 18 February at 6pm.

Only one bus is currently allowed to travel across the bridge due to weight restrictions.

Hammersmith and Fulham Council and TfL are still finalising plans for major repairs to the bridge later this year.

Richmond Council’s cabinet member for highways and streetscene, Councillor Peter Buckwell, said:

“We know that residents and businesses have already accommodated a number of these closures – and it is very frustrating.

“However, we do lobby Hammersmith and Fulham Council and TFL to ensure that if closures are necessary, they are delivered during school half-terms or holidays.

“Also, that residents and road users are given as much notice as possible.

“Furthermore, council officers meet regularly with their counterparts from TfL and Hammersmith and Fulham Council on the planned bridge closures, representing the borough at the working level.”

Motorists will be diverted via Chiswick Bridge and Putney Bridge.

One footway will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists, who will have to dismount to cross.

Bus services 33, 209, 283, 419, 485 will terminate before bridge.
