Sutton workers are being warned to stay vigilant after a man was threatened in an alleged robbery on the way to a car park.

The victim, who does not wish to be named, was walking behind the perpetrator in Wellesley Road at around 6.15pm on January 2.

It is reported that after the suspect turned around he demanded the man’s possessions.

He said: “When I got to the end of the road he turned around said, ‘Get your wallet out now’. I jogged back and called the police.

“At the time it didn’t seem particularly frightening but you think back on it and it’s just a bit disconcerting.

“I didn’t feel particularly threatened at any time because he was quite a distance away from me, he was at least a metre away.”

People are now being asked to walk in pairs after the incident in the Mayfield Road area.

A Met Police spokesman said: “Officers received an allegation of attempted robbery in Langley Park Road at 6.15pm on January 2.

“No property was taken and victim was not harmed.

“Police in Sutton investigated.”
