Piles of christmas trees have been left uncollected in Twickenham for more than a week.

A least ten trees can be seen discarded at the junction of May Road and Colne Road.

One furious resident said: “These trees are everywhere, uncollected and, due to the wind, being blown around and blocking roads so you can't turn into them with your car.”

The Liberal Democrat opposition leader, Gareth Roberts, called the situation “quite ludicrous”.

A spokesman for Richmond Council said the trees will be collected tomorrow morning (January 18).

He added: “The council started their scheduled collection of real Christmas trees from households around the borough from January 8.

“Trees are collected on garden waste recycling days.

“As promoted, these collections will be completed by the January 19.

“The timescales are the same as in previous years.

“In addition to street collection, the council offers five ‘off road’ community drop-off points.

“This is a big collection window and there are thousands of trees to collect.

“We are aware that a small number of residents have not left their trees outside their properties but have piled them up at the end of their streets.

“This obviously causes issues if trees blow into the road or causes an obstruction.

“As soon as these issues are reported, the trees are urgently removed.

“We would ask residents to help us and be mindful of where they have placed their trees.”
