A Ewell resident has started a “fix it by February” campaign to improve the look of the village and make it a nicer place to live.

Brian Angus, chairman of the Ewell Village Residents Association, went for a walk and took 50 photographs of things in the area he thought could look better.

Some were broken, some were dirty, but he wants them all to be better by his next walk along that route in February.

He said: "People feel they can't make a difference, but they could easily do something like this.

"I don't just want these items fixed, although that would be a good start. I want people to work to make the area the best place to live."

The 50 items include dirty, worn out signs,

Mr Angus, who has lived close to the area his whole life, said successes so far include commitments from Surrey Police, South Western Railway, BT, Surrey Fire and Rescue and Surrey County Council to either take action or look at the problem.

He said: "A lot of people have been brilliant, and I am receiving a lot of positive feedback to this initiative. It should overcome the decline into 'why should I mend my bits when nobody else is?'"

The Ewell Village Residents Association is asking people to look not just at big things, but at smaller things too.

Their suggestions include mending your front garden, picking up rubbish from the floor, putting bins out nicely and reporting potholes.
