Wandsworth Council leader councillor Ravi Govindia has provided a message to the borough ahead of the beginning of the new year.

Speaking to Wandsworth’s residents, he talked about schools, homes, libraries and the regeneration of Nine Elms in Battersea.

Mr Govindia said: “Our aim is to deliver local homes for local people. At the York Road and Winstanley Estates in Battersea Wandsworth Council has committed itself to its biggest-ever estate regeneration.

“This, together with the Alton Estate in Roehampton, will deliver 4,000 homes. There will be homes for people to rent and there will be homes for people to buy at affordable prices.

“We want great education for our children. Schools are going from strength to strength – currently 97 per of our schools are good or outstanding. Schools in Wandsworth will continue to improve and give our children a great start.

“Our commitment to our library service makes me immensely proud. We have invested in our libraries and there will be more investment to come.

“Nine Elms is the site of the most incredible amount of investment and redevelopment in London. Next month the American Embassy opens its doors to business and Apple and Penguin Random House have taken space in Nine Elms.

“These world class institutions moving to Wandsworth will open up huge opportunities for our residents, and will be a spur for other creative, publishing and digital industries to come to the borough.

“All this together helps us create great opportunities for our young people: better housing, more housing, better education, jobs and opportunities galore.

“That’s what makes me proud to be leader of this council. I wish you all a happy and prosperous new year.”
