Sainsbury’s has chosen its Balham supermarket to launch Zizzi pizza and Sushi Gourmet counters for customers.

Chefs will be serving up hand-stretched, stone-baked rustica Italian pizzas, including vegan options and the ability for shoppers to choose their own toppings and garlic bread.

There will also be a ‘Pizza of the Month’ special at the branch in Balham High Road.

You can order them either in store or via the Sainsbury’s click and collect scheme on Zizzi’s website, where you can pay in advance, while there is also an option to order via delivery service Deliveroo.

Sushi and teppanyaki will be prepared fresh by chefs in-store and feature alongside the pizza installation, and a successful 20-store trial will see it rolled out across 30 more supermarkets.

Balham store manager John Stanton said: “We’re really excited to be the first Sainsbury’s store to offer our shoppers Zizzi’s restaurant-quality, ready to eat pizza, as well as freshly made sushi from Sushi Gourmet.

“Customers will now be able to bring the pizzeria and sushi bar experience to the comfort of their home, with the added convenience of being able to pick up their favourite grocery products for the perfect meal in at the same time.”

Zizzi chief executive Steve Holmes said: “We are extremely excited about our new partnership with Sainsbury’s.

Changing consumer lifestyles have created opportunities within casual dining and we have seen delivery sales grow rapidly behind the increased demand for restaurant quality food enjoyed at home.

“Offering our signature Rustica pizzas to go in Sainsbury’s is a natural progression in offering another convenient way for customers to purchase their favourite pizza, ready to eat.”

The new counters were unveiled today (December 7).
