In 2012, the Richmond and Twickenham Times headline ‘The End of an Era’ tolled the bell for Twickenham Film Studios, which was set for demolition after running into administration one hundred years after it was founded.

Fortunately, through the sterling effort of CEO Maria Walker who founded the ‘Save Twickenham Studios’ campaign, the site was saved after being purchased by Sunny Vohra.

Nearly six years on the studios is bigger and better than ever, and we're lucky enough to be shown round by Ms Walker herself.

The inconspicuous outside conceals the truth, where smartly carpeted corridors are complemented by posters of every 2017 blockbuster you could come up with on the spot, from Baby Driver to Murder on the Orient Express.

They hang like trophies, testament to the reputation that the studios have for world-class post production.

However, Twickenham Film Studios is actively engaged in production too, which is clear when you move outside to see studios the size of aircraft hangers, thronging with workmen crafting worlds within worlds.

The BBC frequently uses the studios for filming its dramas, and series three of Netflix’s incredibly successful Black Mirror was shot here too.

For Black Mirror’s season four episode ‘Arkangel’, Jodie Foster - perhaps best known for Silence of The Lambs - flew in to direct.

This single episode is so hotly anticipated that the upper crust of all film news, Empire magazine, ran an entire feature on it this month.

As anyone who has watched Trainspotting can attest, heroin addiction and cats don’t usually bode well but this is not the case with ‘A Streetcat Named Bob’, the heart-warming biography about busker James Bowen and the ginger tom that adopted him.

The successful drama was shot here too, where a ‘cat dyeing room’ was set up so moggy stars could get made-up with Bob’s exact markings, in the end a futile exercise as Bob played himself, but that’s showbiz.

We’ve been sworn to secrecy over the details of the latest films being produced here, but let’s just say that Twickenham Film Studios is set for another century of ground-breaking history.
