A hero street cleaner joined members of the Fizz (formerly Bucks Fizz) to switch on the Christmas lights in Bromley last Sunday.

Colin Whitehead is a member of Bromley Council’s street cleaning team.

He was nominated as a ‘local hero’ by a woman called Ellie Wells who often chats with him in the mornings.

Mr Whitehead told Ms Wells he was ‘just a street cleaner,’ and so she nominated him for the awards to thank him for the work he does.

Cheryl Baker, Mike Nolan, Jay Aston and Bobby McVay of The Fizz, performed in Bromley Market Square as part of Christmas celebrations organised by The Glades and Your Bromley.

Mr Whitehead was given £250 to spend in Bromley shops and was given a cheque that he donated to Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.
