Kingston Council will refund parking tickets for visitors to the Malden Centre after complaints the signage had not been updated to reflect the new borough-wide charges.

Visitors were given tickets last Sunday and complained the signage still implied parking was free.

Councillor Phil Doyle, cabinet member with responsibility for parking at Kingston Council said: “A flat rate evening charge and Sunday charge for all car parks in the borough was agreed at Budget Council in February 2017.

“Notices explaining the change in prices have been on display in the Malden Centre car park since March of this year.

“We are aware some visitors may have missed these notices so will be issuing warnings rather than penalty charge notices, for two weeks starting from Sunday 26th November until Sunday 3rd December.

“We will cancel the six PCNs that were issued by our contractor in error and refund any payments that have been made.

“All signage in the car park has been updated to reflect the new charges.”
