Teddington police have warned residents to be extra-vigilant after a spate of car break-ins.

Police expect break-ins to increase over the festive period and are advising drivers not to leave valuables on display inside vehicles.

A police spokesman said: "We advise drivers to take any Christmas presents in to your home and please do not leave them in your car.

"A little crime prevention can go a long way.

“After locking your car try the door handle to make sure it’s locked.

“A surprising amount of thefts occur from insecure or unlocked cars.”

Police provided evidence of three unlocked cars they found on their patrols.

Other advice includes getting a removable music system, and parking in public car parks that are part of the police approved ‘Park Mark’ Safer Parking Scheme.

If you see a crime in progress ring 999, or 101 for suspicious behaviour.
