A new 20 mph speed limit is planned for Benedict Road and Belgrave Walk next to Benedict Primary School in Mitcham

Merton council proposed the order on November 2 after consulting the Metropolitan Police Commissioner.

Merton Council cabinet member for regeneration, environment and housing Councillor Martin Whelton said: “We’re proposing to implement a 20mph speed limit in Benedict Rd as part of our ongoing borough-wide programme of road safety measures.

“We are currently consulting on the implementation of the speed limit, with residents in the area.”

Covered by the limit will be Benedict Road, between its junction with Church Road and its junction with Belgrave Walk and on Belgrave Walk between its junction with Illingworth Close and 139 Belgrave Walk.

Paul McGarry, head of futureMerton said: “Any person desiring to make representations or to object to the proposed order should send a statement.”
