A prostate cancer patient from Epsom has been shortlisted to become an ambassador for a national fundraising campaign on November 28.

Kevin Webber has been shortlisted to become the #givingtuesday UK Charity Champion for his incredible feats in support of Prostate Cancer UK after being diagnosed with the disease in 2014.

#GivingTuesday will take place on November 28 (following #CyberMonday and #BlackFriday) and it's hoped it will be even bigger than last year's event which broke a Guinness World Record for the most online donations in 24 hours as people gave away £38 million to good causes globally.

Kevin is seen as an ideal person to promote "the day of doing good stuff for charity" following his ultramarathon in the Sahara as well as races in Iceland, Spain and the UK, which have raised more than £200,000 for Prostate Cancer UK.

His nominator Alison McCall said: “From almost day one of receiving his prognosis, Kevin has challenged himself to the utmost extremes.

“Kevin is an excellent raconteur, sharing his deeply moving story and his journey to date with numerous friends, colleagues and others impacted by this disease.

“He’s raising awareness and educating people whilst also benefitting the charity through his considerable fundraising efforts and achievements.”

Next year Mr Webber will embark on his toughest challenge yet, the Likeys Yukon 6633 Ultra - a gruelling 560 kilometre trek across the Arctic, in temperatures as low as minus 40 degrees Celcius.

Ms McCall added: “He is an amazing and inspirational person who has gone above and beyond to show extraordinary commitment to his charity and has inspired many individuals to challenge themselves whilst doing so.”

Last year #givingtuesday. was the top trend on Twitter throughout the day with more than 53,000 mentions.

Celebrities and politicians including Stephen Fry, JK Rowling, Emma Watson, Miranda Hart, Gary Lineker, Lily Allen, David Baddiel, Peter Andre and David Tennant backed the day.

Ben Russell, director of communications at Charities Aid Foundation, said: “We’re delighted to have received so many nominations.

“It’s now over to the judges to read about all the wonderful work each of these people have done, and choose the champion who will help inspire others to do something in support of a good cause this #givingtuesday.”

Eight volunteers have been shortlisted in the search for the 2017 #givingtuesday UK Charity Champion; the winner will be revealed on Tuesday 7 November.

Last year, online donations reached £6,000 a minute for UK charities with more than 1,600 charities and businesses connecting with the movement which reached hundreds of thousands of people.
