Showbiz legend Christopher Biggins will be flicking the switch to get the festive season started in Richmond.

Mr Bigginsm who will be appearing in character as Widow Twankey in Aladdin at Richmond Theatre this festive season, is the star attraction at the Big Christmas Light Switch on Friday, November 24.

In addition to Christopher Biggins, there will be music, a Christmas choir and live street entertainers. Many of the shops and restaurants across the town will have special offers and free treats to add to the festive mood.

Be Richmond chairman Erick Kervaon said: “Friday, November 24, will be a great family day in Richmond, with Santa’s Grotto, the Big Christmas Light Switch and live entertainment.

“It’s also a great opportunity to do some quality Christmas shopping in Richmond’s excellent selection of big name and speciality stores

“Family entertainment will continue in the town centre on Saturday, so it’s not just a great evening, but a great festive weekend.”

The Big Christmas Light Switch will take place outside Whole Foods Market and across the Town Centre between 5pm and 6.15pm.

It is the first time the annual event has been organised by Richmond’s new Business Improvement District, Be Richmond.

On the same day, The Vineyard Community Centre will host a Santa’s Grotto from 4pm until 6pm with face painting and festive activities; visits cost £2.50 and all proceeds help the homeless.

Festive activities continue on Saturday, November 25, with street entertainment and carol singers from 11am until 3pm.
