A train travelling to London via Richmond was unusually quiet this morning because display boards displayed a “cancelled” message.
Baffled commuters at North Sheen turned away and tried to find alternative ways into work when the busy 8:04 train was apparently ‘cancelled’.
When the train approached the platform (on time) the message on the display board read ‘Stand back, the next train is not scheduled to stop at this station’.
A South Western Railway spokesperson said: "We'd like to apologise to passengers travelling from North Sheen this morning for the inconvenience caused to their journey.
"Due to a fault on a customer information screen, the 08.04 service displayed as cancelled when in fact it ran as scheduled."
