A West Molesey woman is heading into the finals of TV's biggest cooking show.

Former Army officer and stuntwoman-in-training Sophie Faldo, 33, has made the final three of Channel 4's Great British Bake Off.

The final episode is due to air on Tuesday (October 31) and Sophie goes into the show on a high, having won the coveted Star Baker in the last episode, and is the bookies' favourite to win.

She said: "It all feels a bit surreal really; it only feels like it was last week that I was back in France applying for the bake off."

Sophie was encouraged to enter the show by her boyfriend, David.

Speaking before the series aired, she said: "He actually put the initial application in.

“I had been looking at going on a course for a while at a patisserie college as it’s something I love doing but I couldn’t really afford it. I saw they were accepting applications and before I knew it, David had started applying.

“But never in a million years did I think I would get on! I just thought ‘let’s chuck it in and see what happens’."

The self-taught baker has consistently impressed judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith throughout the series, especially during pudding week in which Paul Hollywood said her pudding was of ‘Michelin-starred quality’.

Sophie said: “There have been plenty of ups and downs for all the bakers throughout Bake Off. It’s hard to pick a favourite moment, probably receiving the first ‘Hollywood Handshake’.

“Although cake is the thing I probably enjoy making the most, bread week was a personal triumph. Bread was the thing I was least experienced in so I did slightly dread it.”

Sophie is not shy when it comes to challenges, she has previously been a ballet dancer, an Army officer and she is now a training stunt woman.

Twice named star baker, she is the bookies' favourite to win with 8/11 odds from Betfred.

The ex-army officer discovered she had a natural talent for baking and more recently, a passion for patisserie. When she is not baking, Sophie enjoys track cycling, rowing and teaching Military boot camps.

Sophie is hopeful her time on the show will lead to something special.

She said: “After Bake Off finishes, I would love to try and make something out of it. Baking is a real passion of mine and if I could turn it into a career it would be fantastic. I’m open to all the opportunities.”

The final of the Great British Bake Off airs from 8pm on Tuesday (October 31) on Channel 4.
