A mental health management company is launching a new initiative to help people who are suffering in Sutton.

Curado will introduce its forum, Melting Moments, next month where its consultant psychiatrist will give a talk before a question and answer period.

Dr. Anthony Akenzua will focus on a theme of positive mental health in times of anxiety for the first session which is open to anybody.

“There is still a stigma around mental health,” a Curado spokeswoman told Sutton Guardian.

“People are too frightened to talk about it. What I would say to encourage people is that it is an opportunity to just listen.

“You might be pleasantly surprised by what you will hear and you could then open up about you own mental health issues but you don’t have to.”

The Sutton Life Centre will host the session from 6.30pm to 8.30pm on November 14.

Curado runs a residential care service for adults experiencing mental health problems.

Residents stay at their accommodations for 18 to 24 months where they are taught to live more independently.

“We are like a half-way house,” the spokeswoman explained.

Families of mental health sufferers are also free to attend the Melting Moments session.

A previously successful forum was set up for relatives which inspired Curado to establish one where more people can get involved.

The spokeswoman added: “We find that a lot of our service users come from hospital or prison and have families who are not educated about their relative’s mental health condition.

“Some people don’t know how to deal with it. The first reaction for family members is to cut off from them after their relatives were in a locked unit.

“We try and bridge that gap.”

A scheduling for the Melting Moments forum will be decided after the first meeting is reflected upon.
