Gok Wan, the stylist who encouraged people to ‘get naked’ in his six season Channel 4 series How To Look Good Naked is finally ‘getting naked’ himself with stage show "Gok Wan - Naked and Baring All" coming to Richmond Theatre on November 13.

From his humble beginnings on a Leicester council estate, to becoming one of the country’s most recognised faces, the show will be a candid exploration of Gok’s life.

Gok said: "How do you cover someone’s life in 90 minutes? Firstly it needs to be more honest than I’ve ever been. Secondly it needs to show a side of my personality that I have never given out on screen before. Thirdly it has to be inspiring - there is life after anorexia, the bullying and so on.

"And finally it has to be fun, it’s got to have all the humor in there, because you know, life is really funny. Every single day stupid and ridiculous things happen to us all and I think they are sometimes the most valuable anecdotes to give out to people because it’s the stuff that people can empathize with straight away."

Some might be surprised that Gok originally wanted to be a classical actor and trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama, so this isn’t his first time on stage.

He said: “I wanted to do Shakespeare, Chekhov and Brecht and be out there performing at the Globe and the National, but over the years I realized it just wasn’t me! I have a skill at doing a different kind of performing on stage which is often centred around humour and cheekiness, which fits perfectly with panto and you see that on TV a bit.”

Gok Wan - Naked & Baring All is co-written and directed by Owen Lewis whose other successes include Grumpy Old Women - Fifty Shades of Beige, Suggs My Life Story, Pete and Dud Come Again, and The Only Way is Downton.

Gok's other documentaries include Too Fat Too Young and Gok’s Teens: The Naked Truth, exploring the modern-day issues teenagers face including sexuality, online bullying and eating disorders.
