A new study has analysed the percentage of adults in London boroughs who participate in sports.

GolfSupport.com revealed that Richmond upon Thames was the most active sporting borough in south west/east London with only 41.8 per cent of adults (over 16s) not playing sports.

Bexley was the least active borough in south west/east London with 54.2 percent of adults not participating in any sports.

A survey was conducted by GolfSupport.com to discover why adults were not engaging in sports.

The most cited reasons were being too busy with work, being too tired, having non-work commitments and sport being too expensive.

Gary Swift, managing director of GolfSupport.com, said: “The fast-paced nature of London unfortunately translates to its residents, who are consistently preoccupied with work matters and social engagements. As a result, they have little or no time for physical activity.

“Whilst the Olympics did initially surge sports participation numbers, it seems the nostalgia is now stagnating. To counteract this, there needs to be a new and creative approach to illustrate the long-term benefits of sport participation on physical as well as mental health.”
