Runners and joggers will soon be able to do a weekly 5km run through England's largest vineyard.

Denbies Wine Estate, in Dorking, will be the site for the weekly Parkruns which. it's hoped, will take place on Saturday mornings from the New Year.

The venue was deemed suitable for the runs after councillors at Mole Valley District Council granted planning consent for a car park to be built on the estate which will be especially for Parkrun participants.

Cllr Lucy Botting, executive member for wellbeing, said: “We offer a range of health and wellbeing opportunities in the district and we are delighted that parkrun can be added to the fantastic number of activities our residents can choose from.

“I would like to thank Denbies for coming forward and offering to host Parkrun. It will be very popular I’m sure and have real health benefits for participants.”

Finding the venue brings to an end to the council's two-year search for a suitable venue after the council's own parks were found to be unsuitable for the Parkruns which require a 5km distance to be covered in one, two or three laps.

Jeanette Simpson, Denbies chief operating officer, said: “Denbies are very pleased to host Parkrun within the estate.

“It is a fantastic community event which we are delighted to be involved with.”

The runs are free to participate in and are organised by Parkrun UK, which encourages people of all abilities and all ages to take part.
