Motorcyclists will soon be allowed to use bus lanes across Richmond Borough.

The move is part of a wider Bus Lane Review, which is supported by Transport for London (TfL), and comes after an eighteen month trial on two lanes in the borough.

Councillor Peter Buckwell, cabinet member for highways and street scene said the decision “will bring the borough in line” with neighbouring boroughs which have already made the change.

He said: “The benefits of the change have been seen at the two locations where motorcycles in bus lanes have been trialed.

“We believe the changes will reduce confusion for road users, and reduce the risk of collisions as riders will no longer travel through west London and not know whether they are permitted to ride in a bus lane or not.

“For pedestrians and other road users the position will also be clear.

“Ultimately this will make the roads safer for everyone who uses them.”
