A memorial marking the 100th anniversary of the death of a First World War pilot has been unveiled at a Carshalton secondary school.
Stanley Park High held a special assembly on October 18 to reveal the RAF roundel inspired memorial.
Red, white and blue circles made from coloured chippings were used by the students.
The memorial celebrates the life of second lieutenant Thomas William George of the Royal Flying Corps who died on October 18, 1917 in Queen Mary’s Hospital.
Stanley Park High is now located at the site of the hospital where the pilot passed away after injuries sustained in a flying accident.
Lt George had his pilot training at Plough Lane Airfield in Wallington.
Year 11 horticulture students created the tribute which included a copy of a letter sent by Lt George to his brother, Robert, less than four weeks before he died.
