Parents and carers are being urged to get secondary school applications in as soon as possible as the deadline approaches.

The last date for schools starting September 2018 is Tuesday, October 31- the “crucial” deadline applies to children who were born between September 1, 2006, and August 31, 2007.

People who submit their school choices ahead of this month’s deadline will be told the outcome of their applications in March 2018.

For anyone applying after this, their application will be classed as a late admission which means they are less likely to get their school of choice.

Late applicants will be considered after all those who applied by the deadline.

However, if there were extenuating circumstances as to why someone applied late, then these could be considered.

Councillor Susan Chappell, Richmond Council cabinet member for children’s services and schools, said: “This year’s GCSE results indeed showed another marker of the continued improvement in our schools.

“Our online information provides an introduction to the wide range of learning opportunities, specialist facilities, aspirations and achievements to ensure the future success of our children. It explains the process of applying for secondary schools for September 2018 and also gives information about secondary schools in the borough.

“Selecting the right school for your child is both challenging and exciting.

“Parents are advised to read the brochure we’ve produced as it contains lots of information about local schools and offers a step-by-step guide to the applications process.”
