Police are keen to trace a woman with an Irish accent who came to the aid of a man who had a vodka bottle smashed over his head at Hampton Wick station.

Police say the woman was among members of the public who helped the man, aged 22, who sustained a large cut to his head and bruising to his eye and cheekbone and required hospital treatment.

It was around 11.30pm when the man was going down the stairs towards the exit of the station near the main road when, police say, two men came up from behind and one of them grabbed a cigarette from his hand.

The victim turned around and one of the men hit him with a vodka bottle on his head.

The woman with the Irish accent was said to have walked the man home.

Anyone else who witnessed the incident who has not yet come forward is also asked to contact British Transport Police officers.

Officers say they are no longer wishing to trace a man who they believed may have witnessed the attack, as they have since spoken to him.
