Money raised on the day will go to the local children’s hospice charity Shooting Star Chase.

Jim Peters, club president, said: “We now have the opportunity to celebrate the club’s heritage by returning to Twickenham where the club was formed and played its fixtures.

“I hope that the Club’s members, friends and families in the local community interested in finding out about rugby will come along and enjoy the club’s 150th Anniversary Celebration”

This south west London community amateur rugby club is the 11th oldest in England and can trace its heritage back to 1867 when Wellesley House Grammar School, a young men’s academy in Twickenham, played against Richmond 2nds on October 1867.

The club evolved into Twickenham and was accepted into the Rugby Football Union in 1880; the year of formation was in 1893 after a meeting was held in The Prince Blucher pub to form a football club adopting the rugby code. Twickenham then played for one season on Twickenham Green.

Over the years play was located around a succession of Twickenham meadows and fields with headquarters based in local pubs; The Prince Blucher, the Albany and The Albert. It finally put down its roots in its current 22 acre playing grounds at Parkfields, Hampton.

Mr Peters added: “We look forward to showcasing a representative sample of our thriving 450 playing members in all age-groups between six to seniors.

“We are fielding three touch rugby teams, all in our black and red colours over the afternoon in three brief matches; Minis, Juniors and Seniors.”
