The by-election for Putney’s Thamesfield ward will be held on Thursday, November 9, Wandsworth Council has announced.

The by-election will fill the seat vacated by former councillor Jim Maddan following his death on September 13.

Borough residents eligible who wish to vote in the by-election must ensure their name is on the electoral register before the registration deadline of midnight on Tuesday, October 24.

The council has sent out household enquiry forms to homes in Thamesfield, allowing people to add names of residents who are not currently registered to vote.

However, any names added to the address through the form will not be added to the electoral register unless the individual has applied by the October deadline.

The deadline for a postal vote is Wednesday, October 25, at 5pm, and the date also applies for anyone who wishes to cancel an existing postal or proxy vote – the voter must provide a signed letter confirming their cancellation and stating they no longer wish to vote by post or proxy.

To apply for a postal or proxy vote, visit: wandsworth.gov.uk and type in ‘vote by post’ in the search field to then download an application form.

Poll cards will be delivered to all eligible voters by Royal Mail postal service prior to the commencement of the elections, containing key information about the date and time of the poll as well as a map showing the location of the voters’ allocated polling station.
