A Wimbledon charity which helps children with learning disabilities is desperately appeal for help to stay open.

The Squad is a Thursday night term-time club which has been running in South Wimbledon for 22 years with a mix of socialising, life-skill training and fun.

But now it has launched its Save the Squad appeal in a bid to raise £10,000 by November.

Trustee Charlotte Walker said The Squad had been actively pursuing long-term funding but have launched an emergency fundraising appeal in the interim is calling for people to spread the word as the services they offer are unique.

She said: “The services we offer, makes us very important to the members life.

“We give a lot of support to people who often didn't have the services that they would have in their area.

“Spreading the word is what we would love to see and any small amount will make a difference."

Charlotte started off as a volunteer herself ten years ago through a neighbour and was a volunteer for four years before coming a trustee and credits the fantastic team of volunteers for making it great and who dedicate their time to the club.

She said: "I used to volunteer every Thursday for four years, It was really good fun.

“The volunteers stay for years as it is very enjoyable."
