Morden is the UK's capital for written-off cars, according to figures revealed this week.

The risk of buying a write-off in Morden is more than a third (35.35 per cent) according to figures by mycarcheck.co.uk

On average, the number of vehicles checked by the company listed as having been involved in a crash was 18 per cent.

The rest of the UK top five was made up of Cleethorpes (31.37 per cent), Doncaster (27.05 per cent), Barking (25 per cent), Northolt (24.19 per cent).

Mycarcheck.co.uk released the figures as new write-off categories came into effect on October 1, replacing the A, B, C and D categories with new codes: A (scrap), B (break), S (structurally damaged repairable) and N (non-structurally damaged repairable).

Mark Bailey, Head of CDL Vehicle Information System, said: " Some parts of the country are much worse than others when it comes to write-offs, with London particularly renowned for it.

"For Morden, in the first half of this year, the risk of buying a write-off was more like one in three."
