Police have praised “brave” newsagent staff for foiling an attempted armed robbery in Banstead.
Three men got out of a vehicle and approached the Surrey News and Mini Market in Rectory Lane at about 4.20pm on Wednesday, September 27.
One of them is believed to have had a gun and another a knife.
They attempted to kick the door in before fleeing in a silver vehicle.
Detective Inspector Peter Harvey said: “The attempted armed robbery of the newsagents in Banstead yesterday was a frightening ordeal for the staff. Their brave actions and quick intervention prevented anything being taken on this occasion.
“We have already had a huge response from the local community and are extremely grateful for the information they have provided.”
Surrey Police wants to speak to a man who might have seen the incident.
He is described as in his mid-20s, of large build, 5ft 5, short brown curly hair and wearing a red tee-shirt.
Detective Inspector Harvey said: “I would like to ask anyone that may have any seen something suspicious, or have any further information to contact Surrey Police as a matter of urgency. Did you see a silver car with four males wearing balaclavas?”
