A mum is offering free anti-choking training for schools across south west London, Surrey and West Sussex.

The mum, Helen Stafford, set up 'Mini First Aid Surrey' to prevent more people hospitalised from choking.

She uses an innovative vest called an 'Act Fast Chocking Trainer' to allow teachers and children to practice the life-saving abdominal thrust manoeuvre.

The 20 minute training shows how to dislodge an item stuck in someone's throat.

Helen said: “Choking is every parent and carer's nightmare. Sadly we are all too aware of its potentially devastating consequences. Yet it can often take an incident to motivate people to learn basic first aid skills.

“My ambition is to help people feel confident to take swift and appropriate action and help children in schools to stay safe.”

Epsom Primary School was one of the first to take advantage of the free training.

Headteacher Michelle Pollard commented: "This was such a practical and highly relevant training session. It has supported our lunchtime team to feel more confident if a choking incident was to occur."
