A retired Epsom man overcame his fear of heights last week by abseiling down the Arcelormittal Orbit tower to raise money for children in Nepal.

Nick Barry, 60, is a former management consultant and chair of Nepal's children's charity, Kidasha.

Just four months after hip replacement surgery, Nick abseiled down the 114.5 metre-tall tower in London's Olympic Park on September 15.

Kidasha support vulnerable children in Nepal by aiming to protect them against abuse and exploitation.

Nick said: "As someone who doesn’t like heights, abseiling had never appealed to me. However, having just turned 60 and recovered from a hip replacement, I thought it was time I challenged myself and for what better reason than to raise money for Kidasha!

"It certainly wasn't easy, going over the top was completely stomach churning. But it was worth it to be able to help such an inspiring charity.”

Janice Miller, CEO of Kidasha, commented: “It is always fantastic to see people fundraising for Kidasha, and we were especially impressed by Nick’s decision to face his fear of heights.

“We're so proud that he was able to complete the challenge and raise so much money to help vulnerable children in Nepal.”

Nick has raised £1,020 so far.
