A teenager has been arrested at a Thornton Heath home in connection to the Parsons Green bombing.

Early Thursday morning police officers arrested a 17-year-old boy and have begun a search of the house.

The property where anti-terror cops arrested the boy was described as a "halfway house" by neighbours.

Loud bangs were heard as up to 20 officers stormed the end terrace house and arrested the teenager during the raid just after midnight.

The five bedroom property in Thornton Heath houses asylum seekers and immigration applicants, according to local residents.

Residents say young men of many different nationalities have been seen going in and out of the property since it became a halfway house around 15 years ago.

Ola Anderson, a tube driver who lives next door to the property, said she heard loud banging at around midnight.

The grandmother said: "I was in bed when I heard all these loud bangs and loud noises.

"I quickly jumped up and looked out the window and saw about 20 police officers.

"Everybody in the house was woken up. It was a loud repetitive banging.

"My husband went down to ask if we should be concerned about this.

"They said 'nothing to worry about, we're acting on intelligence'.

"They went round the back of next door and they took off my garage door.

"I thought they were looking for someone who may have been hiding in there, but they didn't find anyone.

"I've lived here 20 years and this is so quite surprising."

Phil Burt said he was woken by a "loud" bang and the house had been raided for drugs in the past.

The 67-year-old said: "It woke me up it was so loud.

"There have been a lot of police coming round here in the past so I didn't think anything of it.

"People have been arrested for drug dealing, arson, things like that.

"There's so many nationalities in their its hard to tell where they are from."

One neighbour said two big vans came during the raid.

Bernadette Murphy, 84, said: "I just saw two big vans go up the road, no policemen - just the vans.

"There's always a lot going on and lots of people going in and out.

"It's a bit of a shock and a bit surprising for it to be on my doorstep.

"I never spoke to the people who live there, they are all young and of different nationalities."

This is the sixth arrest made in connection with the attack that injured 30 people when a make-shift bomb exploded at Parsons Green Tube station.

All six males are in custody at a south London police station.

Commander Dean Haydon, head of the Met Counter Terrorism Command, said: "This continues to be a fast-moving investigation.

A significant amount of activity has taken place since the attack on Friday.

"We now have six males in custody and searches are continuing at five addresses. Detectives are carrying out extensive inquiries to determine the full facts behind the attack.

"We anticipate that the searches will take some days to complete and may cause further disruption. However, it is important that we continue with these searches and I'd like to thank all those affected for their support, patience and co-operation.

"As police and our partners do all we can to confront the threat, public vigilance remains as vital as ever."
