Croydon carers Jean and Eric Hills celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in style last week at the Carers Support Centre

At the a drop-in support centre for unpaid carers in George Street, the couple were treated to presents, cake and lunch on Friday, September 8.

Jean and Eric were married on September 8, 1967 at St Mark’s Church in Mitcham. They have been joint carers for their disabled son since he was born.

Mrs Hills was overwhelmed with emotion.

"I thought we’d be celebrating today on our own," she said.

"It’s such a nice surprise. A special thank you to everyone for making this happen.”

Both carers attend the Carers Support Centre regularly, visiting the Carers Café and taking part in activities such as dance and carers’ lunches.

Carers Support Centre manager Helen Thompson said: “Jean and Eric are both dedicated carers for their son, and it’s been wonderful to celebrate such a special day with them.

"We love seeing them at the centre and wish them many more happy years together.”
