Jobs are at risk as one of Mitcham’s big employers has said it intends to move out of the borough.
Tool and equipment hire company HSS Hire is proposing to shut its head office in Willow Lane with operations centralised in Manchester.
The company, founded in London by Bert Taylor in 1957, employs around 2,900 staff at 250 locations across the UK and describes itself as ‘a leading provider of tools and related services in the UK and Ireland’.
A source told Wimbledon Guardian up to 90 jobs could be at risk, though this was not confirmed by HSS Hire.
A spokesman for HSS Hire said: “There is a proposal in place to close the Mitcham office, and HSS is currently in consultation with affected colleagues, working to minimise the risk of redundancy and facilitate redeployment opportunities where possible.”
