Pupils across Wandsworth celebrated when they received their GCSE results last week.

Students in the borough woke up to their results on Thursday, August 24, to discover whether they achieved the grades they needed to secure a place in their chosen college or sixth form.

Boys from Ernest Bevin College in Beechcroft Road, Tooting, achieved a ‘strong’ set of GCSE results.

Sixty-two percent of the 170 boys in the year group achieved passes graded four to nine in at least five subjects, including English and mathematics.

Meanwhile, 32 percent achieved the ‘tougher’ measure of the English baccalaureate (EBacc) with passes in English, maths, science, humanities and a language, with nearly a fifth of all exams graded in the top 9 to 7 – A, A* and above.

Saint Cecilia’s Church of England School, in Sutherland Grove, Southfields, were also rejoicing.

Eighty-eight percent of pupils in Year 11 achieved nine to four grades in English and 83 percent achieved nine to four grades in mathematics.

There were smiles all around at Thames Christian School in Wye Street, Battersea, as 83 percent achieved at least one A* or A grade, as well as every pupil going to their first choice college or sixth form.

Among the ‘outstanding’ performers was Ase, who achieved six A* grades, two As, four Bs, an eight, six, six and A in additional mathematics FMSQ.

At Ibstock Place School, students broke the school record for the proportion of GCSE candidates achieving A*, as 54 percent of all entries were awarded the highest grades and 82 percent of examinations were given either an A* or A.

No fewer than 14 pupils achieved nine A* grades or more.

Putney High School celebrated 61 percent of its entries achieving A* grades and 93 percent securing A* or A grades.

Almost one quarter of the year group achieved nine or more A* grades, with 11 students earning ten A* grades as well.

Before joining the Harris Federation, only 44 percent of Harris Academy students were achieving A* to C in English and mathematics, but this figure has almost doubled with 83 percent of students now achieving the measure this summer.

It saw a ‘significant increase’ in its EBacc scores, which increased from 41 percent in 2016 to 54 percent this year.

A third of students at Chestnut Grove Academy achieved an A* equivalent in English, with 69 percent managing a B grade and 81 percent getting a C grade.

In mathematics, 20 percent of pupils got an A*, 56 percent secured a B and 72 percent managed a C.

Lee Melo and Camilla Lorenzen were among the many pupils at St John Bosco College in Parkham Street, Battersea, were very pleased with their results, and 25 percent of Year 11 students at Southfields Academy, in Merton Road, achieved A* to A grades, while 39 percent got A* to B and 69 percent managed A* to C.
