A charity in Sutton is appealing for more assistance as they continue to provide support to homeless people in the borough.

Sutton Night Watch Homeless Charity attended the Carshalton Environmental Fair yesterday, August 28, where they hosted an assault course and raised funds.

“My children loved your assault course and your wonderful prizes,” commented one mother on Facebook.

Director of Sutton Night Watch Homeless Charity, Andy Fulker, said: “It went really well. It was very busy and we raised £450.50.

“That will go towards helping the homeless with any supplies we need for our kitchen and things like buying trainers and clothes.”

Mr Fulker admitted they hoped to raise more money considering the high attendance.

“We thought it would be more but we are happy and appreciate what we raised,” he said.

Sutton Night Watch became a registered charity in 2015 and one of their ambitions was to acquire a premises to run a soup kitchen from.

However, Mr Fulker said: “We are having no luck at all. It’s very frustrating, especially when the year is flying and winter will be here quite quickly. It’s becoming more worrying.

“We want to run it from a building so people get a couple of hours’ respite.”

Currently the charity runs a stall at The Quadrant outside Sutton Station where they provide hot drinks, food and supplies.

Another goal for the charity is to obtain a bigger van.

“That’s quite important for us,” Mr Fulker told Sutton Guardian. “Our kitchen is growing and the amount of stuff we are taking is growing as quite a few shops donate food. It’s becoming a necessity to get a bigger van.”

Last month, July 31, the charity teamed up with Rapid Relief Team UK to serve 120 meals in the borough. Mr Fulker confirmed he has since spoken to the Rapid Relief group since and the two charities are keen to work together again in the future.

A new website will be launched shortly where all the latest information and news regarding Sutton Night Watch Homeless Charity can be followed.

For now updates on their progress can be tracked from their Facebook page, @SuttonNWHomeless

“If anyone would like to support us, please get in touch via Facebook,” Mr Fulker added.
