Introductory fitness sessions are being offered to Richmond residents as part of the launch of a new outdoor gym in Sheen this autumn.

The gym classes are being organised for the first two weeks in September as part of the ‘Council’s Parks Improvement Programme’ which saw the installation of the gym in North Sheen recreation ground.

Funding was secured for the project by the Friends of North Sheen Recreation, who campaigned for the new outdoor equipment, through the London Marathon Charitable Trust.

Cllr Pamela Fleming, Richmond Council Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “We know that residents value our parks as one of the most important aspects of living in this borough and we want to ensure everyone has access to these wonderful spaces.

“We have some of the most healthy, fittest residents in the country. But there are some who cannot afford membership costs or don’t fancy exercising in a gym.

“These free sessions will hopefully give people a taste for exercising in our beautiful parks.”

The free classes are designed for people who may not currently participate in any physical activity and aim to help improve physical health and wellbeing through exercise.

Specialist companies have been commissioned to deliver the supervised classes highlighting how each piece of equipment benefits the user.

Places are limited and to reserve your place, please sign-up at the Pavilion Café in North Sheen Recreation Ground.
