A man has been banned from three areas of Sutton for causing “alarm and distress” to residents, shoppers and commuters.

Sidney Cranfield, 31, is prohibited to enter the Roundshaw Estate, Wallington High Street or Sutton rail station for the next five years.

He is also not allowed to associate with a group of people who police believe are a “considerable factor” for his disruptions.

Sutton Police had been receiving daily complaints regarding Mr Cranfield who they say drank excessively, begged aggressively and caused people alarm.

The Criminal Behaviour Order, which was obtained at Surrey Magistrates' Court on August 18, also bans Cranfield from asking strangers for money or being drunk in a public place in England or Wales.

Police will arrest him if any of these conditions are breached.

PC Dudas, of the Beddington South Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "The Beddington South and Wallington South Safer Neighbourhood Teams had been receiving multiple complaints about Cranfield, who was persistently causing concern and alarm at multiple locations in the borough.

“We were able to clearly evidence Cranfield's negative impact on a specific number of locations across Sutton and that there were a group of people who are regularly present when he was doing so.

“I am pleased the courts supported our application to impose conditions on Cranfield, some of which are not criminal, but that will make a huge difference to residents and visitors to Sutton.

“This Anti-Social Behaviour will not be tolerated and with this CBO we are sending a clear message that individuals will be held to account."

If you spot Cranfield you’re encouraged to call Sutton Police on 101.
