Proposed changes to two Croydon bus routes have left Waddon ward's councillors "surprised and disappointed."

On behalf of the three Waddon representatives, Councillor Robert Canning wrote in protest to the changes that will see the bus stops served by the 289 and 455 busses on Trafalgar Way and Drury Cresenct be scrapped.

In a letter to the managing director of Surface Transport at Transport for London, Mr Canning said the changes were "not worth the considerable inconvenience" they would cause.

"Removing these stops would mean that some bus users – including the elderly, those with young children and people with disabilities – would be forced to cross the very busy, polluted and potentially dangerous A23 Purley Way in order to make their journeys," he said.

"Both bus stops are situated close to popular shops and are well-used.

"Their removal would see shoppers having to walk to alternative stops on the A23 Purley Way. This not insignificant trek – particularly for those travelling northwards and those carrying bulky and/or heavy loads of shopping – would be a strong disincentive to take the bus and an incentive to use the car."

Mr Canning asked that Mr Daniels intervene to stop the planned removal of the bus stops.

A spokesperson for TfL said the changes would save passengers around three minutes of travel time.

These changes will be implemented on September 2.
