Kew Lionesses under-13s have won Europe’s largest football tournament for girls’ teams, beating the hosts 6-0 in the final.

The group went to Copenhagen for Cup Denmark, and scored 42 goals while conceding only 3.

Hosts Brondby IF, whose senior men’s team came second in the Danish Super League last season, faced the Lionesses in the final but were comfortably defeated.

The under-12s made it to the semi-final, losing to Brondby.

Lionesses coach Christian Humphries said: “I'm so proud of the way both Kew teams played. The younger team managed to get to the semi-final, beating some top Scandinavian teams en route, and the older team won the tournament.

“We played great passing football, scoring hatfuls of goals and defending expertly. The girls had a great time and made friends from across Europe. They were a credit to the club, to the county and to the UK, representing the best in football and showing that girls can play brilliantly.”
