The fire at Weybridge Community Hospital in July has left a news service for those who have difficulty reading in need of a new home.
The Elmbridge and Runnymede Talking Newspaper has recorded and sent weekly digests of news taken from the Surrey Comet, the Surrey Advertiser and the Surrey Herald since 1975.
For most of that time, they used a small room in the hospital – both the original building and the one in Church Street.
Now, the fire destroyed their recording equipment, files, furniture and the awards they received over the years.
Committee member Anne Prevost said: “We are working hard on finding accommodation for a studio and replacement of the equipment and we hope that this valuable service to visually impaired people in Elmbridge and Runnymede will soon be restored.”
The team is looking for volunteers to help produce recordings, particularly with admin experience and technical knowledge.
If you can help, or if you know someone who would benefit from receiving the recordings, The Talking Newspaper team asks you to contact them at eartn@waitrose.com or on 01784 435622.
