Armed police and police helicopters were called to East Croydon Station this morning.

A police spokesperson said: "Police in Croydon are dealing with a suspicious male.

"Officers were called to East Croydon BR Station, George Street, Croydon, at 8.51am on Thursday, July 27, to reports of a male acting suspiciously.

"Local officers, supported by firearms officers, have attended the scene.

"No one is reported injured. No arrests at this time. Enquiries continue."

Reports from witnesses at the scene said that helicopters flew near Lansdowne Road for at least 30 minutes at around 11am this morning.

One witness said: "Helicopter has been circling in addiscombe area of Croydon for some time now! must be something pretty serious?!?!"

Another Twitter user wrote: "My wife says armed police on every platform at East Croydon station and sniffer dogs." 

Witnesses said that at around 11.30am police left the scene.

A witness said: "The helicopters and police who was in our carpark have literally just left."

A spokesperson for police confirmed that police "were stood down at about 11.40am."

They added: "The situation has been dealt with."
