The time to save The Glamorgan pub is now.

A town hall meeting has been scheduled for tonight in the hopes to garner enough signatures from residents so as to get the Addiscombe Pub listed as an asset of community value (ACV).

"If we get the signatures it would put a freeze on the development, as the pub then can't be demolished," Councillor Sean Fitzsimon, who represents Addiscombe said.

"Because it would remain as a pub and not be turned into flats, the property wouldn't be worth as much.

"That would give us more time to discuss with the owner what to do about the situation."

As it stands, 21 signatures are needed from residents who live in the Croydon area, with the hope to submit the form by Wednesday.

Without the signatures, Mr Fitzsimon said the pub didn't stand a chance.

"It's the first of many battles," he said.

"But if we don't win this battle, then there won't even be a war.

"Without the ACV the value would just be too high to stop the demolition.

"There is still plenty of work to do afterwards though."

For more than 100 years the pub has stood on Cherry Orchard Road and Mr Fitzsimon believes it can return to its former glory.

"There’s a lot of residents who remember it as a successful local pub," he said.

"It has the potential to offer music food and drinking.

"It's also the site where the Croydon CAMRA branch was formed 41 years ago, so there's a fair bit of history attached to this pub.

"I think a lot of people are interested in saving it."

The public meeting will begin at 7pm tonight (July 24) at Croydon Town Hall
