Sixty pupils from Coombe Hill Junior School took part in a world record-breaking sports event at Lord’s Cricket Ground on Monday, July 17.

Together with cricket charity Chance to Shine and the rest of the 580 primary school children from across the country, they broke the Guinness World Record for the largest single-venue cricket lesson.

The record was previously held by Cricket Australia, who ran a lesson for 488 children at the Sydney Cricket Ground last December.

Former England captain Charlotte Edwards and a team of coaches led the session with a Guinness World Records adjudicator on hand.

Over the 30 minutes, the children performed batting, bowling and fielding drills and received one-to-one coaching from Ms Edwards and the team.

Long-time Chance to Shine ambassador Ms Edwards said: “It was brilliant to see so many young people at Lord’s having the opportunity to play and learn through cricket, while learning how to play hard, but fair. And beating the Guinness World Record set by the Aussies at the Home of Cricket was the icing on the cake!”

Ten-year-old Cassie from Coombe Hill Junior School said: “Today’s been amazing! I’ve loved being here at Lord’s helping to break a World Record. It was also great to meet Charlotte and Isa who are really inspiring. I think cricket’s a good sport for girls because girls are just as good as boys!”
