A 16-year-old is in critical condition after a crash between a police car and a moped with three teenagers on it in Wimbledon.

All three males were arrested at the scene and two large knives were recovered.

At about 2.15am on Sunday morning (July 16), a moped and marked police car collided in South Park Road near the junction with Trinity Road.

The moped, which had been reported stolen on July 12, was being monitored by a National Police Air Service helicopter as it was believed to have been involved in an earlier attempted robbery.

The three males riding the moped, aged 15 to 16, were taken to a south London hospital for treatment.

A 16-year-old male is in critical condition, another 16-year-old suffered a serious leg injury and a 15-year-old sustained minor injuries.

The Directorate of Professionals Standards has been informed.

The incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
