A Bexley councillor has taken part in a ‘cultural challenge’ around Bexley to take in as many sites in the borough as possible in one day.

Councillor Peter Craske, Bexley’s cabinet member for community safety, environment and leisure set himself the challenge which started at the Civic Office, the former Woolwich Building which has been home to the council since 2014.

Cllr Craske then ventured to Crayford Library via Barnehurst Golf Course’s driving range.

He then joined the Mayor of Bexley councillor Peter Reader and former premier league footballer Scott Minto and David Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, at Mayplace Playing Fields to help open a new 3G football pitch.

Moving on to Erith Leisure Centre and then the Crossness Pumping Station, cllr Craske visited Lesnes Abbey Woods before making his way to Danson Park House.

The councillor also visited Red House, owned by the National Trust, and then Rose Brugord College, Bird College before finally stopping at Hall Place Gardens.

Councillor Craske said: “That was one fantastic day around our amazing Borough. We have an abundance of great cultural sites in Bexley that we should all be proud of.

“I have gone from the very new at Mayplace to the old at Red House, Hall Place. Crossness and Danson and a mixture of both at Lesnes. I have seen the amazing work volunteers put in at Crossness Pumping Station and have driven and walked by some of our impressive public art.

“I’ve spoken to volunteers, leisure centre users and college students and park visitors and each gave me the real sense of community and pride in our borough.”

Later this year Bexley will be preparing its bid to be named London Borough of Culture. The two winning boroughs, one in 2019 and one in 2020, will receive over £1.1m for cultural projects.
