A 20-year-old murder suspect has been bailed after a woman died last week.

Neighbours say a woman repeatedly screamed “murder” after discovering the woman's body in her home in Mitcham.

Police pronounced a 63-year-old woman dead at the address on Thursday, July 6.

A neighbour, who did not wish to be identified, said she heard the distressed woman shortly after 10.30pm in Edgehill Road. By the time she had dressed, other residents had gathered outside to console two women, believed to be mother and daughter.

The neighbour said a Polish family had only recently started renting the terraced property in the leafy residential street.

She said: "It was very frightening, too close to home.

"There was blood everywhere, and she just kept screaming murder. I asked if she knew the woman was definitely dead, but she didn't speak much English."
